Abstract

Spiritual Journalism is a new trend in the fast growing Indian media sector. Its evolution in the mainstream Indian journalism can be traced back to the end of the last century, with the regular columns in Indian print media. Today almost all the papers are giving regular and weekly space for spiritual content. There are dozens of magazines dedicated for spirituality. After the advent of electronic media, the trend of religious and spiritual channels began. Today there are about 50 spiritual channels in India.

The latest trend can be seen in the web media. With its interactive mode and other facilities, it seems to be the most fertile platform for spirituality. Wide spread spiritual content on online channels, social networking sites and other web platforms is worth noticing. On the whole, evolving trend of spiritual journalism is making its presence felt in the Indian media.

The present paper will explore this evolving trend of Spiritual Journalism, its present state in Indian media and discuss its scope and potential challenges associated. And also the relevance of spiritual journalism in the academic, professional and social context shall be highlighted.
